Testimonials: Educational Edition

Here’s what educators, coaches, parents, practitioners, and administrators are saying about Beauty Mark Educational Edition!

This is one of the most effective and powerful films I have come across in the past 20+ years of teaching high school health.  I had a GREAT response to it with my students.  The complexity of issues and the presentation of the material provided me with ample opportunities to develop discussions and activities with my students. I am so thankful to have this tool to use with my students. I highly recommend it for high school and college use.

The showing of Beauty Mark for our professional development day was a spectacular success! Our district superintendent summed it up well: “Beauty Mark is a liberation of the soul: it’s not just about eating disorders, it’s about all of us.” Many of the 81Guidance Counselors, School Psychologists, Social Workers, Health Teachers, School Nurses, Gym Teachers, and Coaches who came are still ranting and raving about the film.

It was wonderful to have the Co-Producers, Diane Israel and Carla Precht, there too. It was a truly awesome event that deeply impacted every participant. Beauty Mark and its creators have begun a speaking/screening circuit that is the best-case format for any high school or college.

Thank you so much for extending the invitation to attend today's movie, Beauty Mark. It was fascinating to hear and see someone who has lived with anorexia and has turned her life around. Diane Israel was inspiring and motivating. The district's selection of this movie shows me, as a parent, that Arlington is gearing up and ready to work with students who might be on the path to this terrible illness. As you know, I have lived this horrific ordeal with my own daughter and I do not want any others to have to suffer in silence thinking it's going to go away on its own. This is a very real and emotional reality in today's world. After doing much research for the past two years, I know that we have children as young as seven years old going through this now.

Seeing this movie and hearing Diane discuss the issues she faced and how she overcame them on her road to recovery, brought me hope. I really feel you should also bring this information to hospitals and doctors alike. I can’t tell you how many professionals do not know what to do with us. As a parent and staff member, I thank you for allowing me to attend today's workshop. I learned so much!

I was so intensely moved by watching Beauty Mark – I had no words. It hit home with me on many different levels – as a Guidance Counselor, daughter, mother, human…. It gave me so much to think about and to use every day. I really thank you for sharing it.

Beauty Mark is a powerful and poignant film that will resonate with anyone who has ever had issues with food, exercise, or body acceptance. Our students from the Five College Consortium in western Massachusetts were noticeably moved by the honest, compelling story of one woman’s struggle and eventual recovery from obsessive exercising and anorexia. Beauty Mark explores in a very authentic way the concepts of athletic  excellence and competition, perfection, and beauty. It is touching and it is inspirational.

Our showing of Beauty Mark was wonderful. We had a full house of 200 people including athletes, men, women, health practitioners, and students from the University of Connecticut. The film proved to be as powerful for others as it was for me. Staff and healthcare providers/clinicians I work with to support students with eating disorders and body image concerns want to show Beauty Mark during their therapy group sessions and hold discussions after. Beauty Mark and Diane appeal to all people and show how many factors affect one’s body image. The room was filled with laughter at cuter moments and sniffles at others.

Diane is very strong and passionate about sharing her story and being there for others. Students stated how comfortable Diane made them feel so they were able to ask questions.  I only wish I had the words to describe how great the night was.

Showing the film was a great way to start out National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. We had two showings and the turnout was quite good when compared to other films shown. People thought the film was very applicable to issues student-athletes have and obsessive/compulsive behaviors are something that students struggle with here and could really relate to. Our Wellness Coordinator (a former cross-county runner at our college in 1995) suggested that coaches show this film at the start of their season.
